East Bay Jewish Community Campus

The Jewish Community Center (JCC) of the East Bay acquired a 3-acre site in Oakland’s Rockridge neighborhood with the intention of creating a collaborative, future-facing campus that supports the vibrant East Bay Jewish community. Siegel & Strain facilitated a master plan and visioning process imagining a place of inclusivity and belonging where local Jewish people and organizations can gather, share resources, and amplify their collective impact.

The proposed design includes the renovation of two existing buildings — a three-story administrative complex and a two-story assembly space — along with the conversion of some parking into a central green. In addition to office space for the JCC and mission-aligned nonprofits, the campus will offer a preschool, youth programs, adult learning, and wellness support. Changes to the buildings and site are strategically targeted for maximum impact and improved environmental performance with minimal rework.

Siegel & Strain guided the JCC through a complex planning process involving change of use and strategic negotiation with City officials. Through proactive and collaborative stakeholder engagement, the design not only meets regulatory standards but also resonates with community values — sparking creativity, nurturing identity, and providing a place for different generations and organizations to connect, learn, and celebrate their culture together.
