The Presidio Stewardship and Sustainability Center (SSC) brings together the Presidio Nursery with all of the staff and volunteers who work on natural resource issues throughout the Presidio. The rehabilitated historic structure and new Education Building will showcase the Presidio Trust’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

The Education Building will overlook the recently restored Butterfly Creek. This building will house a classroom for the Presidio’s educational programs, office space, outdoor workspace for volunteers, and a living-machine. A translucent sloped canopy extends from the roof and collects rainwater and energy; volunteers and visitors can see this from below.

Offices, classrooms, and meeting rooms will be contained within the rehabilitated warehouse. The historic fabric of the warehouse is to be retained. Two new shed-roofed monitors will announce the building’s new entries, bring light into the center of the building, and provide natural ventilation chimneys for passive cooling of the offices.
