The San Francisco Chapter of the American Institute of Architects recognized Siegel & Strain's Orinda City Hall project with an honor award in the energy and sustainability category. A total of four projects recieved the award. Completed in June 2007, Orinda City Hall is a 14,000 square-foot office building designed to create a larger sense of community connection for citizens and city staff, while meeting a high level of environmental responsibility. The new city hall houses public meeting spaces and the City’s administrative, planning, building and police departments. The integration of passive and active systems led to greatly reduced energy demand – 60% better than California’s Title 24 standards without the use of renewable energy. When weather allows, the mixed-mode building can run exclusively on natural ventilation. The prize was one of four awarded in the category.
